About Me - Engineer, Inventor, Innovator, Advocate

I'm a man of diverse interests and accomplishments, but at my core I am a chemical process engineer, with 22 years of experience across a variety of positions in DuPont, 8 years as technical consultant to patent litigation, and 3 years of independent research and study. My core strength: I understand chemical process dynamics, and I can analyze and simulate them to develop effective control strategies for difficult, persistent control challenges. My skills in software and computer technology enable me to create solutions that pull together diverse technologies.

A specialist by inclination, I most often have worked on teams with strong plant technical and operations staff where my skills were key to solving persistent problems - problems that plant people alone were unable to solve. After leaving DuPont, I decided to seek professional licensure. In 2003, I became a registered Engineer Intern in Delaware. In January, 2016, after passing the exam in Chemical Engineering, I became licensed as a Professional Engineer in the state of Delaware.

As software architect and designer of two major real-time systems for process control, I understand what it takes to develop reliable and usable software. And since both these systems incorporated artificial intelligence technology to levels that hadn't been reached before in process control, I have the vision and skill to bring new, sophisticated technology to practice. The success of these technologies and the patents that protected their innovations show that I know how to stick with a problem and push through barriers to achieve long-term success. As founder and ten-year operator of a small, independent publishing and bookselling company, I understand what it means to run a business, maintain cash flow and margins, and how to effectively connect with customers to promote a product. As the sole designer and developer of the web-based e-business functions that automate my business, I'm an expert Windows programmer, creating both web and application interfaces above SQL databases using ASP.net and operating a public-facing e-business web server.

As inventor and advocate of 17 US Patents and many foreign counterpart patents, I understand what it means to create inventive new technology. As an inventor active in working with examiners and amending applications, I understand patent prosecution. As consultant and expert witness in patent litigation over the past 10 years, I understand how patent litigation works, the role of consultant and witness, and I've shown that I can perform well in both courtroom and deposition testimony.

As author of seven books dealing with the family dynamics of mental illness and addiction, I've developed a solid reputation as an understanding, compassionate and insightful advisor to many thousands of readers and consulting clients. I also hold a graduate certificate in sport psychology, an interest I've yet to develop into a practice. This arises from my accomplishments as an accomplished figure skater, and I am a basic accredited teaching professional from the Professional Skaters Association.

Yes, I have a range of interests and options open to me. So when I present myself available for work in chemical process consulting and litigation consulting, this reflects my choice. If you choose to work with me, I'll give you my dedicated effort. I invite you to look in more detail at my CV's and experience on the accompanying pages. I welcome your phone call or email to explore opportunities where my skills and experience can benefit your plant, your project, or your case.
